Military ID by Monarth Military ID by Monarth
So, as some of you probably already know, I'm in the military at the moment and as such I saw fit to change my ID picture for the time being.

This is the holiday uniform of the coastal section of the Finnish navy that I'm wearing. The sticker on my chest signifies my rank, which currently is the basic cannonman. Not much to say than that, unless you want to ask about details.

Well, I guess we'll see you when you get back from the military.

Ooh rah. I've seen many military uniforms in my time, and I've learned a great many things from the many militaries. I do wish you ask about the hat though, why is it shaped like that? Being American I'm used to something a little shorter, so I'm curious.

This is how it roughly looks: www.supernova.fi/tuotekuvat/90…
Instead of a knot, the earflaps are longer and connect with velcro on top.

So, the actual appearance of the hat is kind of hard to see in the picture due to my lifted chin, so it may look a little tall. The hat is designed to be very multi-functional for winter use. It includes a flap that covers ears and neck that's folded in in the picture. And if it gets really cold, you can open the top, fold down some really soft and fuzzy earflaps and close them under your chin. The front end can also fold down for a more cap-like appearance to shield you from the wind.

During the summer we wear a cap or a beret instead of this.

Huh. That's cool. Knowing the kind of climate y'all have up there, I'm sure those hats get well used. Very interesting :)
